Girls Rugby is Alive and Kicking!!!

Over 250 girls braved the weather at Broadplain RFC on 27th September for our annual girls rugby festival and what a fab event it was!

This year we went one better and added a year 7 touch rugby event to proceedings so 16 yr 5/6 Tag teams and 9 Yr 7 Touch teams headed onto the pitches for our 'World Cup' event.

Despite the rain, teams had really made an effort to represent their countries and in the end Scotland (Ashton) and Italy (Merchants) got prizes for the best dressed teams and Headley Park got the award for 'right colour wrong flag' for representing Wales (with the Italian flag face painted on their cheeks)!!!

The atmosphere was fab. Great play, great teamwork, good fun and new friendships formed. This is what it's all about!!!

We were supported by Rich Hynes from Bristol Bears Foundation which was a real bonus plus they have been working with quite a few of the secondary schools so have been doing some great work!

Just to add to the excitement of the day we were honoured to have Amber Reid on hand, Bristol Bears Captain and England World Cup champ. She was such a fantastic role model and took part in a Q & A session with both age groups which went down a treat.

In the end girls rugby came out tops and Scotland (Ashton Park) and Wales (Headley Park) were 'World CUp' winners.

Brilliant event all round!!!
