Fun and Learning at our Partnership Day

The beginning of the new school year marks the first of our Partnership Networking Days.

This is the opportunity to meet new PE leads, to share ideas, to explore any new national and local initiatives and to inspire our PE coordinators to translate any theories into practice back at their schools.

We had a great turn out from our 41 membership schools who were all enthusiastic about our theme for the day;  ‘Forgetting the Fun?’ We considered the three government’s ambitions set out in the School Sport & Activity Action Plan (July 2019) to remind ourselves that if we can make learning  fun and being active the same thing then children are much more likely to consider doing physical activities in their own time and consider being active for life.

The morning practical session gave a menu of ideas about how to ‘camouflage’ activity and to ‘gamify’ activities to make them more enjoyable and ‘fun’. Teachers were led through a range of activities and explored ideas using STEP to challenge, support and include all children. The afternoon session with James and Simon from the 'Robins Foundation' explored how to plan a lesson to make learning fun and progressive for all children using a build of challenges.

Feedback from both sessions was very positive. Teachers were inspired to take back and to share ideas with other staff members to make PE lessons engaging, active and fun where children improve, achieve and be inspired  to develop a lifelong participation in active lifestyles.

A challenging ambition so good luck everyone!!
