Dance Fests are a BIG hit!

On Tue 20 and Wed 21 Ashton Park School hosted our 6th annual Dance Fest evenings. The evening temperatures in Bristol were among the hottest on record for June and in the school hall the air conditioning was working at full tilt to keep an audience of well over 600 parents, families and other guests from overheating!

Over 350 talented and enthusiastic dancers aged 5 years to 16 years from our Partnership Primary Schools and our Partnership Dance Companies weathered the searing heat to entertain us with enjoyable and varied programmes. With no outward signs of stage fright or shyness and wearing a variety of simple but cleverly designed costumes, the young dancers came trouping up onto the stage, where they went through their routines with tremendous gusto and enthusiasm, took a nicely coordinated bow to “lights up” and trouped back off stage with beaming faces and an almost military precision. It was a humbling experience to see genuine talent and commitment from all dancers, and is a tribute to their own efforts and those of choreographers and supporting parents/helpers, who give up so much of their own time to make it all happen and look so good. At half-time, a little light relief was provided with impromptu performances (that's theatrical terminology for “sparingly rehearsed”) of Cotton-eyed Joe by the Dance Fest management team and willing volunteers.

All the money raised from ticket sales, refreshments and promotional tee shirts etc goes directly back into the Ashton Park School Sports Partnership development budget to finance future dance opportunities for pupils of all ages.
