Dance Festival the biggest and best yet! KS1 ‘Going to the Movies’ Dance Festival

Bigger, better, louder, prouder! This year’s festival proved that improvement is always possible through the dedication and commitment of everyone involved. More than 280 pupils from our local primary schools, including our Trust schools ( Ashton Vale, Luckwell, Compass Point) as well as Hotwells, Ashton Gate, Southville, Victoria Park and Parson Street arrived in a variety of different costumes and outfits ready and excited to perform in front of each other, proud parents and teachers.

A packed school hall resounded to ‘Saturday Night at the Movies’ by The Drifters, the ideal music to warm up body and mind before the performances.

Performers danced enthusiastically to well-known themes from ‘Toy Story’, ‘James Bond’, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’, ‘The Pink Panther’, ‘The Lion King’ and ‘Lilo and Stitch’. The audience joined in clapping and stamped feet to ‘Shake your Tail feather’, from the movie ‘The Blues Brothers’.

Once again it was a pleasure to invite our Partnership Dance Companies, Fizzle, Ignite and Synchronicity, led by Kate Wassall, a year 13 student, who rewarded us with a sneak preview of the dances they are preparing for Stages. We were delighted by guest appearances from school dance clubs at Parson Street and Luckwell, inspired and led by our very able Dance leaders in Year 12, Daisy, Kerry and Georgia.

How wonderful to see the children’s proud faces as they performed, and the smiles and enthusiastic clapping as they, in their turn, were delighted by the effort of others!

How can this be topped next year? I’m on the case thinking of my next theme to inspire the young pupils and teachers. Ideas on a postcard please!
