A wonderful morning of dance was enjoyed by 280 excited pupils and proud parents and teachers. The 2012 Olympic Games was brought to life through themed dances by year 1 & 2 pupils from Hotwells, Ashton Gate, Ashton Vale, Southville, Compass Point, Luckwell and St Bernadette schools.

‘London’s Calling’ by the Clash gave the inspiration to warm up bodies and minds, before the formal opening of the festival with some pupils bearing the Olympic flags and pledging the dancers’ oath.

Dances included ‘The Opening Ceremony’, ‘Count down to The Games’ ‘On the Track’, ‘In the Pool ’and ‘In the Gymnastics Arena’. The Olympic values were well and truly celebrated in ‘Reach for the Stars’ dance. Guest appearances from the Partnership Dance Companies, ‘Ignite’ and ‘Synchronicity’ for our gifted and talented dancers and year 7 pupils from Ashton Park School completed the line-up.

It was fantastic to see all pupils and parents joining in the ‘Determination’ Dance at the end bringing together pupils from different schools and inspiring teachers to create their own Olympic Dances.

The smiles on the pupils’ faces and proud grins of parents and teachers inspired me to already start thinking of a new theme for 2013!
