At last we're underway with the South Bristol girl's football league!
It's taken a while to get started but after a lot of combined work from SSCO Claire Brimble along with James Edwards & Aaron Clements from Somerset FA, the starting whistle finally blew for the first central venue round at South Bristol Sports Centre.
Many of the girls are totally new to football, never mind playing in a competition, so the main emphasis is on learning, fun & fitness, although I'm sure as many improve the competition will hot up!
We are really keen for this to be a really positive experience for all involved so an important aspect of the league is to discourage any form of negative behaviour not just from those on the pitch, but equally from everybody on the sideline, whether coaching or supporting.
This made for a great atmosphere, good sportsmanship and some really exciting football. We had some trainee referees from Bedminster Down School, as well as officials from Positive Futures and Somerset FA, so a big thank you to everybody who turned out to help and make the event so successful.
Competing Schools were:
New Oak
Ashton Vale
Victoria Park
Christ the King
Cheddar Grove
Cheddar Grove Rangers
St Patricks
Headley Park
Well done everyone...see you all at the next one!
The next two rounds at South Bristol Sports Centre are on:
Thurs 31st Mar 3.30-5.30pm
Thurs 28th April 3.30-5.30pm
